Round-up: The sixth weekend of Premier League action began on Friday night with a South Coast derby, as Southampton hosted AFC Bournemouth and it was the away side who came out on top in a 3-1 win, making it the first time that AFC Bournemouth have won away to Southampton in the Premier League. It took a matter of just 10 minutes for AFC Bournemouth to go in front as Nathan Aké headed in from a corner, helped in part by poor defending from the Southampton players. AFC Bournemouth had the ball in the net once again around a quarter of an hour later after Josh King scored a nice curler into the far corner, however, the goal was disallowed thanks to the intervention of the VAR as King was in an offside position when he received the pass. They did have the ball in the net again 10 minutes later, and this time the goal stood, as Harry Wilson finished off a cutback by Philip Billing. After a poor performance in the first half, Southampton made a tangible improvement in the beginning of the second half and were awarded a penalty in the 52nd minute after a clumsy foul by AFC Bournemouth defender Steve Cook on Che Adams, with James Ward-Prowse stepping up to convert the resulting spot kick. AFC Bournemouth then should have been given a penalty of their own after a poor challenge by Southampton's Cedric Soares on Joshua King, but referee Chris Kavanagh did not give it and his call was supported by VAR. Southampton did try and push to get the second goal which would have got them back on level terms, but they did not manage it, and to add insult to injury, in the 94th minute Jan Bednarek and goalkeeper Angus Gunn got into a mix-up which led to Callum Wilson putting the ball into an empty net which wrapped up a second successive win for the Cherries. The action today began with an interesting clash between Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur, with the home side eventually coming out on top. Leicester had the ball in the net after 16 minutes thanks to defensive midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, but the goal was correctly disallowed thanks to VAR as Ayoze Perez was offside from Youri Tielemans' initial shot. It was Tottenham Hotspur who would then take the lead, as striker Harry Kane put them in front in the 29th minute whilst he was off balance after a nudge by Leicester's defender Caglar Soyuncu. The VAR was to prove crucial once again in the second half as Tottenham had the ball in the net for a second time in the 64th minute thanks to Serge Aurier, but the goal was disallowed once again after Heung min-Son was adjudged to have been offside after a through ball from Tanguy Ndombele, though the call was contentious as it looked extremely marginal to say the least. Leicester took full advantage of that controversial call as they equalised just 5 minutes thanks to right-back Ricardo Pereira. It looked as though the sides would have to take a share of the spoils, but playmaker James Maddison stepped up 5 minutes from time with a well-hit strike which gave Leicester City the victory, one which undoubtedly strengthens their credentials for a potential top six finish. There were three matches which took place simultaneously in the afternoon, with the standout result being that reigning champions Manchester City bounced back from their shock defeat away to Norwich last week by demolishing Watford in a resounding 8-0 win. It took just 52 seconds for Man City to go in front, as they did so thanks to David Silva. The lead was doubled just six minutes later as referee Mike Dean awarded Man City a penalty after goalkeeper Ben Foster fouled Riyad Mahrez, and Sergio Aguero stepped up to convert it. Then 5 minutes later Mahrez himself got on the scoresheet, and 3 minutes later Bernardo Silva made it 4-0. Three minutes after Silva's goal, defender Nicolas Otamendi scored his first goal since December 2017 to put City 5-0 up after just 18 minutes - a Premier League record. It remained 5-0 going into half-time, though it took less than 5 minutes for Manchester City to bag their sixth as Bernardo Silva scored his second of the game, before he completed his hat-trick 12 minutes later to make it 7-0. Kevin de Bruyne became City's sixth different goalscorer of the day, wrapping up an emphatic 8-0 win which will come as an utter humiliation to Watford. In the other two games that took place this afternoon, newly-promoted Sheffield United earned their first away win back in the Premier League as they won 2-0 against Everton. They went in front after Everton defender Yerry Mina inadvertently put Oliver Norwood's corner in his own net, before Lys Mousset scored his second league goal to wrap up the Blades' second win of the campaign. After recording arguably the most surprise result of the season in beating champions Manchester City last week, Norwich City were brought back down to earth with a bump as they suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Sean Dyche's Burnley thanks to a Chris Wood brace which gave the hosts their second win of the season. In today's evening kick-off, Newcastle United hosted Brighton & Hove Albion in a match where the away team it should be said played the better football and had a clear identity in their play unlike the hosts, but ultimately the game finished goalless, with Aaron Connolly, on as a substitute for Brighton came closest to scoring but his lob over Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka was cleared off the line just in time by Fabian Schar, whilst Andy Carroll returned for Newcastle and played his first match at St James' Park for nearly 9 years, as he came off the bench to a standing ovation from the crowd.
