Leclerc on pole in Spa in Ferrari 1-2

Charles Leclerc has claimed his third pole position in Formula 1. He failed to convert either of his previous two into wins, however, so will it be third time lucky for the Monegasque?

The Formula 1 has resumed after the summer break, and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc has taken pole position for the 2019 Belgian Grand Prix, finishing a massive seven tenths ahead of team-mate Sebastian Vettel who qualified in second. Current World Championship leader and Mercedes driver, Lewis Hamilton, qualified in third, which is a decent result overall, particularly considering the fact he suffered an ugly accident during the final practice which meant that his participation in qualifying was somewhat doubtful due to damage the car suffered from the incident. It will be of concern, however, for Mercedes that Robert Kubica stopped early on during the first part of qualifying with what was seemingly an engine failure, the second one the upgraded Mercedes engine has suffered this weekend as Sergio Perez also suffered an engine failure during Friday practice which led to him reverting to an older-spec engine.
