Charles Leclerc has made it back-to-back pole positions for Ferrari in the 2019 Italian Grand Prix, after the qualifying ended in farcical circumstances as all the drivers left it extremely late to come out of the garage and it resulted in only Carlos Sainz being able to set a laptime in the very last part of qualifying. There was an investigation as to what went on in the outlap during the very last part of qualifying, however, no driver was given any grid penalties but Nico Hulkenberg, Lance Stroll and Sainz were all given a reprimand. Kimi Raikkonen suffered an accident in Q3 which meant he crashed out and it caused a red flag, but most significantly Raikkonen was not injured and safely got out of the car.
Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas will start in second and third place respectively, ahead of the other Ferrari driven by Sebastian Vettel - and the German team would be quite satisfied with the result given that they expected to struggle on this circuit as it favours straight line speed and engine performance, an area where they are behind the Prancing Horses, and given that the Silver Arrows tend to have good tyre management and race pace, they would surely fancy their chances of victory in the race. It is set up to be a very interesting race tomorrow, and there is the likelihood of rain during the day and even possibly during the race itself which would make things even more interesting.
