Round-up:
In the League 2 action that took place today, it is fair to say that it was a rather disappointing day for the top teams. The team who went into today at the top of the table, Exeter City, fell to their first defeat of the campaign as they suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to Grimsby Town thanks to an Ethan Robson brace sandwiched by a Moses Ogbu penalty, whilst Ryan Bowman grabbed a scant consolation for the hosts in the 90th minute. As a result of their victory, Grimsby managed to move into the play-offs. Two of the top 3 sides faced each other today as Cheltenham Town hosted Crewe Alexandra, however, neither side could be separated as they played out a 1-1 draw. The home side took the lead after just 9 minutes thanks to a goal from Gavin Reilly, before it was cancelled out right on the stroke of half-time thanks to Chris Porter's goal. One team who took advantage of the top 3 slipping up was Forest Green Rovers, as they recorded a comfortable 4-0 win away to Salford City thanks to a brace from Matthew Stevens, in addition to goals from Aaron Collins and Ehou Adams. Newport County also took advantage of the top 3 slipping up as they impressively won 2-0 away to Swindon Town thanks to goals from Mark O'Brien and Jamile Matt. Bradford City slipped out of the play-off places as they were held to a 1-1 draw away to struggling Scunthorpe United. Jamie Ward put Scunthorpe in front after just 13 minutes as he scored from the penalty spot, before 6 minutes later they went down to 10 men as Matthew Lund was shown a straight red. Paudie O'Connor equalised for Bradford City in the 56th minute, but despite the fact that they had a man advantage for over an hour they could not find a winner and it thus meant that the two teams ended up taking a share of the spoils. Another match which ended up in a 1-1 draw was that between Macclesfield Town and Colchester United, as Theo Robinson scored in the 45th minute to cancel out Emmanuel Osadebe's earlier strike which had put Macclesfield ahead. A team who have improved their form of late are Walsall, as they recorded their third successive victory in a 3-2 win away to Crawley Town thanks to goals from James Clarke, Elijah Adebayo and Wes McDonald, whilst for Crawley the goals came through Ashley Nathaniel-George from the penalty spot and Josh Payne. Plymouth Argyle ended a run of 5 successive matches without victory by recording a slender 1-0 win away to Mansfield Town thanks to a 13th minute goal from Conor Grant. In what was undoubtedly the comeback of the day, Morecambe came from 2 goals down to draw 2-2 at home to Northampton Town. The away side went ahead in 21st minute thanks to Jordan Turnbull, before Turnbull then doubled their lead in the 37th minute. Adam Buxton's 72nd minute goal gave Morecambe a glimmer of hope, before Kevin Ellison scored a 90th minute equaliser which helped them salvage a point. Another team who scored a goal in the 90th minute to rescue a point were Leyton Orient as they played out a six-goal thriller at home to Port Vale. After just 3 minutes of the match, the home side went ahead thanks to a goal from Josh Wright, before two goals from Scott Burgess and Leon Legge in the space of only 5 minutes turned the game on its head. Conor Wilkinson then scored for Leyton Orient just before the hour mark to level up the scoring once again, before Jake Taylor scored what seemed to be winning goal for Port Vale in the 85th minute. However, this was not the case as Josh Wright bagged his second goal of the game to salvage a point for Leyton Orient. A goal after just 3 minutes from Olufela Olomola was sufficient to give Carlisle United a narrow 1-0 win at home to Oldham Athletic. Finally, Stevenage remain rooted to the foot of the table as Sam Smith scored for Cambridge United in the 83rd minute to cancel out Jason Cowley's goal in the 9th minute which had put Stevenage ahead.
