Round-up:
The Bundesliga's weekend action kicked off with a Friday night clash between 1.FC Union Berlin and last season's Europa League semi-finalists Eintracht Frankfurt. After a goalless first half, Eintracht Frankfurt took the lead 3 minutes into the second half thanks to a goal from Bas Dost, before they doubled the lead just under a quarter of an hour later thanks to Andre Silva. Anthony Ujah's 86th minute goal did give Union Berlin some hope, however, his goal proved to be insufficient as Eintracht Frankfurt held on for the victory.
The action on Saturday saw reigning champions Bayern Munich travel to newly-promoted SC Paderborn 07, and it was the away side who ultimately triumphed in a 3-2 victory. The away side took the lead in the 15th minute thanks to Serge Gnabry's goal, before Bayern doubled the lead 10 minutes into the second half via Phillipe Coutinho. Kai Proger's 68th minute goal did give Paderborn some hope, before Bayern then restored their two goal lead in the 79th minute thanks to Robert Lewandowski. Jamilu Collins did restore some hope for Paderborn as he scored in the 84th minute to make the scoreline 3-2, however, this proved to be a mere consolation as Bayern Munich held on for the victory. Schalke 04 maintained their promising start to the season as they recorded an impressive 3-1 win away to RB Leipzig thanks to goals from Salif Sane, Amine Harit from the penalty spot and Rabbi Matondo, whilst Emil Forsberg scored a scant consolation for the hosts. Consequently, Bayern Munich have leapfrogged RB Leipzig at the top of the table. Mainz 05's poor start to the season continued as they suffered a slender 1-0 defeat at home to Wolfsburg thanks to Marcel's 9th minute goal. Bayer Leverkusen managed to record back-to-back wins as they comfortably defeated Augsburg 3-0 away from home thanks to an own goal from Florian Niederlechner followed by goals from Kevin Volland and Kai Havertz. Borussia Mönchengladbach recorded their third successive victory as they triumphed 3-0 away to Hoffenheim thanks to goals from Alassane Plea, Marcus Thuram and Florian Neuhaus.
In Saturday evening's match, last season's runners-up Borussia Dortmund were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Werder Bremen. Perhaps a little bit surprisingly, it was the away side who took the lead thanks to Milot Rashica's goal in the 7th minute. However, that lead lasted less than 3 minutes as Mario Götze equalised for Dortmund, before they went in front four minutes before half-time thanks to Marco Reus. Despite going ahead, Dortmund failed to win the match as Marco Friedl equalised for Werder Bremen in the 55th minute which thus meant that both sides took a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw.
